Founded in 1922 as a mission of Holy Trinity Parish in Orangeburg, St. Mary Mission church was erected in 1929. Bishop Emmet Walsh dedicated the new church on December 29, 1929. Father Thomas J. Mackin was the first priest to travel to Allendale to meet the spiritual needs of the Catholics in the area. Today St. Mary Mission continues to be a mission of Holy Trinity. It serves 15 households that are primarily Hispanic.
