Parish History The Catholic community of Schuyler built their first Church in 1878, which became known as St. Augustine's Church. It cost $700 to construct. The little white church was the spiritual home for the first Catholic settlers for thirty-one years. All nationalities, who were Catholic, attended services there. In 1909, the Catholic community built the St. Augustine's brick Church which stands today. The original Church was later used by the Czech parishioners who desired to have a pastor who spoke their own native tongue. This Church was used until 1914 when St. Mary's Church was built. In 2008, the individual parishes of St. Augustine's and St. Mary's were merged to form the new parish of Divine Mercy Parish.
