St. Dennis was established in 1893 as a mission outpost of St. Francis Xavier, St. Xavier Montana. It has served since that time as a parish church and religious education center for the Crow people at Crow Agency. Originally a Jesuit mission, in 1965 the parish became a ministry staffed by the Capuchin Province of St. Joseph.
