Immaculate Conception is a community of 1,600 households and 4,500 members. We are located in Columbia Heights, a first-ring suburb of Minneapolis in the state of Minnesota. We are a parish community within the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis.
The Church of the Immaculate Conception was formally established in 1923. From the outset, Monsignor Rolwes and the founding community placed high emphasis on spiritual life, commitment to ministry, and generosity. Monsignor Lapinski served IC for 32 years and built the church and school. Along with the Sisters of St. Francis he ushered IC into and beyond Vatican II. Within our parish community they instilled a passion for worship, dedication to the school ministry, commitment to parish community life, and a consistent pattern for giving.
These values are part of our life each day even now. Our history suggests that we are spiritually mature, dedicated to faith and the parish, a neighborly community, and a wonderfully generous community at all levels with our time, talent, and treasure. These are the gifts of our heritage, part of our uniqueness.
Immaculate Conception is a very dynamic and caring parish! More than 1,000 households make a yearly commitment to share their treasure. And with 75 parish ministries, 1,200 shared (volunteer) ministers willingly share their time and talent. In addition to stewardship, Immaculate Conception includes as core values a commitment to quality liturgy, catholic education, and caring for one another.
