St. Jude the Apostle Parish was formed from the merging of St. Jacques Church and Immaculate Conception Church here in Taunton. The merger began in 2006 and became official in 2007. Over the years the two parishes had served the community well.
Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church was founded in 1882 due to the growing Catholic population in this area. The Church was followed by the building of a school and a convent.
In 1904, St. Jacques Church was created for the large influx of French- Canadian Catholics who were living in the area. It was the first French parish in the Diocese of Fall River. Mass was held in the basement of the Church during construction and there are still parishioners that can tell stories of how they watched the Church go up from the windows of their classroom.
In 2006 the process began to merge these two parishes together and in 2007, under the leadership of Rev. John Perry , it became a reality.
In 2013, the Holy Rosary Church joined St. Jude. Established in 1899, Holy Rosary was conceived by visiting Polish priests from Boston. The Parish was established in 1906 by Bishop William Stang and construction of the Church began in 1907. For many years, the Holy Rosary Church was the site of the annual "Polish Picnic."
This wonderful melting pot of parishioners is what makes our Parish a wonderful, welcoming community.
Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Parish is a Roman Catholic parish designated for Polish immigrants in Taunton, Massachusetts, United States.
