The establishment of our Catholic faith community pre-dates the establishment of Donaldsonville by 50 years at a time when the United States territory was still served by missionary clergy of the Catholic Church in Europe. We have the distinction of being a community of faith to which St. Elizabeth Ann Seton deployed her missionary Sisters of Charity in the 1800's and one that was visited personally by St. Katherine Drexel in the early 1900's.
We are also the location of the first ordination of a Catholic bishop in the Louisiana territory in the early 1800's. We figure prominently in the earliest ministry of the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul of France and the Brothers of the Sacred Heart.
We are home to the oldest Catholic school in the Diocese of Baton Rouge and one of the largest and most historic Catholic cemeteries in the Diocese of Baton Rouge.
